Our vision for Australia
ACF’s vision is a prosperous society in which the principles of ecological sustainability, social justice and human wellbeing are embedded in Australia’s decision-making processes, in government, in business practices and in our cultures.
We base this vision of sustainability and prosperity on respect and care for our environment, for our cultures, for each other and for future generations.
Our principles
Our ambition to achieve ecological sustainability includes social justice and equity. We are informed by the crucial role played by Indigenous people and their traditional knowledge systems in caring for country and culture. Our work is ecological, respectful, wellinformed, practical, collaborative, empowering and resolute.
All of ACF’s work is conducted according to the following principles:
Ecologically ethical
As articulated by the Earth Charter, we recognise that every form of life has value regardless of its worth to human beings, and the need to protect and restore the integrity of our ecological systems, with special concern for biological diversity and the natural processes that sustain life, while at the same time providing for social and economic justice.
Respectful
We respect the rights, interests and perspectives of Australia’s diverse communities, now and in the future. We recognise Australia’s Indigenous peoples as the original custodians of this land.
Well-informed
We are informed by the best thinking available, including scientific and Indigenous knowledge.
Practical
We are solutions-oriented and committed to real-world delivery without compromising our goals.
Collaborative
We actively seek to identify common cause with others, including businesses, other community groups and Indigenous peoples.
Empowering
We support individuals and communities as essential agents in transformation.
Resolute
We will stick with our goals in the face of adversity and setbacks. We are prepared to challenge ourselves, conventional wisdom and established power structures in our proposals and actions.
