Community action on climate

Say Yes was a campaign for all Australians who want to do something positive about cutting pollution and fixing climate change.

Say Yes was an unprecedented collaboration of Australia's largest and most influential environmental NGOs and civil society groups,  representing over 3 million Australians. It included Australian Conservation Foundation, Australian Council of Trade Unions, Australian Youth Climate Coalition, Climate Action Network Australia, Environment Victoria, Getup, Greenpeace, The Climate Institute and World Wildlife Fund Australia.

The groups came together under the "Say Yes" banner for real action on climate change.

We believe in doing what's best for all Australians, and standing up to big polluting companies that are scaremongering and putting self-interest ahead of the national interest.

What did we stand for?

We said yes to Australia implementing policies to tackle climate change, including a price on carbon pollution which we saw legislated in November 2011.

Our goals were:

  • An effective price on pollution that starts reducing Australia’s carbon pollution within two years.
  • Growing clean industries and jobs — protecting and growing jobs in energy efficiency, renewable and cleaner energy, carbon farming and existing industries
  • Ensuring low income households are not adversely affected
  • Assisting workers and communities affected by the structural change to access all the opportunities in a low pollution economy
  • Helping the global effort to tackle climate change

We know that if Australians work together to cut pollution and build clean energy, we'll make a success of it.

We're concerned the benefits of putting a price on pollution weren't communicated clearly — that's why we launched this campaign!
