Media releases: Climate Change
Click here to download 'Consumer's guide to going neutral' Australians everywhere are wanting to know what they can do to stop dangerous climate change. ACF has a climate action kit and lots of great tips for reducing your greenhouse footprint on our GreenHome program.
One of the other suggestions gaining popularity is going ‘carbon neutral’. The basic idea is that you pay someone else to compensate for the greenhouse gas emissions you cause. Many people are interested but confused or sceptical about this approach, so ACF has developed a 'Consumers' guide to going carbon neutral' .
In the guide we refer to a list of carbon neutral products, and the various standards used by these products. ACF has not carried out a detailed analysis of these schemes, so we cannot support or endorse any particular product. In future, we would like to carry out a rating of carbon neutral products.

ACF has not assessed these schemes, and lists them in alphabetical order.
• Bendigo Bank

Standards used by carbon neutral product providers
ACF has not assessed these standards for their environmental effectiveness.
• The Gold Standard for greenhouse gas reduction projects
This is an international scheme designed in consultation with some environment groups like WWF
• The Greenhouse Friendly Program
Run by the Federal Government, this program accredits abatement projects and products
• The NSW Greenhouse Gas Reduction Scheme
This scheme creates NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Certificates (NGACs)
• The Mandatory Renewable Energy Target
This scheme creates Renewable Energy Certificates (RECS)
We will be updating this list on a regular basis. If you are aware of a standard for greenhouse gas abatement please email Tony Mohr.
