Rio+20 – United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil | Wednesday, 20 June 2012 at 10:00am to Friday, 22 June 2012 at 6:00pm

Rio+20 is an historic opportunity to define pathways to a safer, more equitable, cleaner, greener and more prosperous world for all.

At the Rio+20 Conference, world leaders, along with thousands of participants from governments, the private sector, NGOs and other groups, will come together to shape how we can reduce poverty, advance social equity and ensure environmental protection on an ever more crowded planet to get to the future we want.

The official Conference discussions will focus on two main themes:

1. A green economy in the context of sustainable development poverty eradication

2. The institutional framework for sustainable development.

In addition to these two main themes, there are seven areas which need priority attention, including decent jobs, energy, sustainable cities, food security and sustainable agriculture, water, oceans and disaster readiness. Rio+20 is a chance to move away from business-as-usual and to act to end poverty, address environmental destruction and build a bridge to the future.
