ACF and many of Australia's other key environment groups have formed an alliance to campaign for a Zero Waste Australia, in particular for a reduction of packaging waste. Known as The Boomerang Alliance, we have highlighted the deficiencies of the National Packaging Covenant (the current approach to reducing the environmental impact of packaging in Australia) and are campaigning for real Extended Producer Responsibility and take-back schemes for packaging.

State, territory and federal environment ministers are preparing to sign off on a second five year term of the industry self-regulated National Packaging Covenant (NPC).




The Victorian and NSW environment ministers have called for the NPC to include high recycling targets for packaging. But industry says it can't meet their required overall target of 65% by 2010 and is continuing to avoid responsibility for its waste.
